Legislative cuts leave school district scrambling

The final results are in, and the budget reductions from this year’s state legislative session have succeeded in a ‘TKO’ for Box Elder School District.

School board members came to their Tuesday meeting ready to face the district’s budget balancing challenge of a possible $3 million reduction in state allocated funds. But when the final punch of a $5.4 million budget reduction for the 2009-10 school year, as presented by Superintendent Martell Menlove, hit them square in the face, they simply shook their heads, unsure of where they could possibly begin to make reductions of any significance.
